    Just as I said in my post any 2 periods that add up to 10 hours so long as the least is not less than 2 hours. Could be 3 & 7 (7 & 3), 5 & 5, 4.75 & 5.25, etc.:

    Splitting of Daily Off-duty Time — Single Driver

    18 (1) A driver who is driving a commercial vehicle fitted with a sleeper berth may meet the mandatory off-duty time and daily off-duty time requirements of sections 13 and 14 by accumulating off-duty time in no more than 2 periods if

    (a) neither period of off-duty time is shorter than 2 hours;

    (b) the total of the 2 periods of off-duty time is at least 10 hours;

    (c) the off-duty time is spent resting in the sleeper berth;

    Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Service Regulations

    ETA: Okay, you were probably saying if one period was 2 hours the other must be 8? Yes, you're correct.

    Geez... all this stuff looks too complicated. When they ask to see my log, I just say, "Hey there, officer! You look kinda ornery... here, have a Coffee Crisp."

    And if that doesn't work, I offer them a drink of my Jack & Coke.

    Check out section 18 part 3 from your link. How does that apply to split sleeper in Canadian rules? To me it reads like the 2nd break must be at least 8 hours.. that's how I've always understood it to work

    No, 8 isn't required with the split. You can go 6/4/6/4/6/4.5/5.5/7/3/7/4.5/5.75 and on and on as long as the combination of work time before and after each split doesn't exceed 13/14 and daily limits aren't exceeded.

    "(3) No motor carrier shall request, require or allow a driver to begin to drive again and no driver shall begin to drive again in accordance with the requirements of sections 13 and 14 without first taking at least 8 consecutive hours of off-duty time."

    That's basically saying that if you want a new full shift (13/14) you must take 8 or more consecutive hours off duty.

    Yes, 18(3) refers to going back to a regular shift; "...to begin to drive again...in accordance with the requirements of sections 13 and 14..."

    An earlier post from like 6 years ago said you can't do anything after 16 hours. I always thought that was false and it only applied to driving, not on duty time?

    Tinytim is right I've been spliting ever since the current rules came out . Both on paper and elog I've never had a voiolation it's a bit tricky watching the clocks and moving 16 hr window but simple once you understand it

    It's 13 hours driving, 14 hours on duty total within a 16 hour period. 10 hours off total per day, 8 consecutive.

    Well that on duty time on line 4 still goes towards your 70 in 7 or whatever cycle you're on...
