I went past this shortly after it happened. I seen the Ambulance headed back into KC about 2 mins before coming to the scene. This article doesnt have any good pics of the scene... But when I saw the car wedged under the trailer I thought they must have pulled a body out... Not a survivor. The ICC bumper was pushed nearly to the headrest of the front seats.

Its amazing how people survive some of the wrecks nowadays. Crumple zones and airbags save a ton of lives. The vehicles they pull them out of, its hard to believe someone could survive.

I watched a video about offset crashes and ICC bars. It would seem an upright at either end of the bar with triangular braces would prevent a fair number of these types of deaths. Of course, more attentive drivers would prevent nearly all of them.

I rolled passed an accident one night and the car hit the trailer so hard it knocked the tandems off. Needless to say the driver did not make it. I looked up the news article a few days later and they said the guy was twice the DUI limit.

When I was in training. Somebody in a toyota pickup ran in to england going up parleys. That was almost 20 years ago.
Somehow they managed to go completely under the bumper and didn't stop till the bed reached the bumper. -
