I have a carrier 2500 and the compressor is leaking from the housing that coupled it to the engine it is not engine oil as it is to thin. My question is is there a gasket there or could it possibly be a crack in the housing. Has anyone had this issue before.

Probably a shaft seal if it has a lot of hours on it. Also, it could be the drain cup hasn't been emptied, the seal leaks a little bit into a cup.

You have to pull the compressor away from the engine. Have you ever replaced the belt to the fans? Stop by a Carrier dealer and let them look at it and check the drain cup first.

It,s the compressor shaft seal.Rather then recovering all the freon just do a compressor pump down.It will save you a lot of time as carrier units hold a lot of freon.
