Is adding the noise reduction package worth it?

  1. Yes, it's a worthwhile reduction in sound

Does anyone have this nose reduction package and can they tell me how effective it is?

Also I'm curious about the weight and cost of adding this to my unit....

    Thanks!!

    Bump
I'm interested; very rarely see stealth carriers, unlike whisper TK's.

Previous company had some of the predecessor to the X series (think it was called Ultima or something) Stealth equipped, but they were still louder then anything short of the new too high revving S700's.

We had mostly the non Stealth X2 2500 & X4 7500 units & I preferred the 7500's all night long.

They have a high of only 1800rpm (vs 2200 something RPM of previous Carriers) & the tone is much lower frequency then previous Carriers, similar to the awesome TK SB series; it is more a growl then a roar.

On the downside, the 7300 & 7500 now have DPF filters which will cause extra maintenance down the road especially if you run start stop in cold climates to save fuel.
Also the lower tone exhaust note carries through sleeper walls more so whole it's "quieter," it has more pronounced droning sound you can actually feel; much like a subwoofer or badly tuned exhaust.

When I researched in the past, the "Stealth" package was a combination of an intake resonator to muffle intake sound & acoustic foam on the interior shell of reefer.

On the new X4 spec sheets, they specify only a "Stealth 2" option package; so there may be a difference from the original stealth package of yesteryear.

Sadly, they do not elaborate on any of the accessory packages which is a major marketing mistake for people interested; only explanation i can think of is to keep details from being easily accessible by competitors.

    Coincidentally, both TK's S600 & S700 use the same engine & pump;
    the S600 having a low 1250rpm & high 2050rpm to get 33hp & the S700 having a low of 1450rpm & high of 2600rpm to get 35hp.

Carrier's 7300 & 7500 do the same as well but both put out exact same 25hp & high speed 1800rpm while the 7300 beats the equivelant TK S600 BTU/hr ratings handily, & the 7500 matching the S700 BTU/hr output exactly; both being slightly behind the TK's on airflow capabilities.

The TK does have the benefits of a larger dealer network, more hardy long lasting reputation, & no DPF filter at the cost of higher RPM operation, definitely higher noise in the S700 category, & heavier weight.

Interestingly, TK does not offer a "Whisper" package for the new Precedent series; maybe trying to project that they have already perfected the design from the start or some other nonsense, but at least in the case of the S700, they are definitely a noise machine of the highest annoyance at high RPM.
Wishing we would have gone with S600's or just SB230's...

Not quite sure what the difference is between the 7300 & 7500 besides 5lbs, since they list engine, pump, RPM, condenser & evaporator dimensions exactly the same; what accounts for the 2000 BTU/hr increase in performance?

My rambling thoughts for the day.
    Cheers

Archangelic peon, thank you for a great post. I found it because we are just getting into pulling a reefer and I am trying to absorb as much information as possible. I was first dead-set on TK but considering significant price difference, I'm not so sure anymore. I was put off by a very short maintenance interval on Carrier 7300 (1500 hours vs TK's 3000-4000), but the 7500 now publishes 3000 hour maintenance interval as well.

The TK is more expensive because you're paying for the diesel electric technology, same as the Carrier Vector line; the new technology has a higher price tag. The X4 series is fully belt driven and cheaper as a result.
It was said previously that Carrier now has a DPF and that is not correct. Carriers are 7 year CARB compliance unless you install the Carrier EES, which is a DPF; it is not standard equipment.
If all you care about is cooling capacity, the Carrier X4 wins, thanks to its 6 cylinder compressor, TK is a 4 cylinder. The new S series TKs have partial electric technology and common rail injection and are extremely efficient, low emissions, and low noise.
As far as the stealth package, it is worth it. I've pulled Carriers with and without it and it is a big difference. I wouldn't say it makes them significantly more quiet but makes the noise more pleasant.
The Carrier Vector is a fully electric drive cooling system with electric heat strips and the Precedent is a direct drive compressor with belt driven generator that does all other tasks. If you want maximum efficiency an S series Precedent or a Vector is the way to go. Both lines are between 29-30 k while an X4 or TK C series is 24-25k, in my area at least.
