...so don't do anything to get yourself pulled over...and if you DO get pulled over, make sure the gun is out of sight and don't give them a reason to search the truck. If they DO search the truck, you'd better have your ducks in a row. State laws vary, but generally speaking if the firearm is unloaded, encased, and inaccessible you are going to be OK. Transporting the firearm from a place where you are legal to possess to another place where you are legal to possess is an affirmative defense...which means you'll still be arrested if possession is prohibited in the location you are stopped and you get to argue in court that you were "just passing through" and hope the judge buys it.
If you've got a CWP and only run in states with reciprocity so that your permit is valid, then you've got nothing to worry about...just don't carry into prohibited locations and you're fine. If you don't have a CWP, or if you run through states which do not recognize your CWP, then you'd better know the laws in those states so that you are legal if you get caught with it....because if you aren't legal, you'll probably be arrested.
...and that's just the LEGAL side of things. If you work for a carrier which prohibits firearms in their trucks, then you'll probably find yourself out of a job if it is ever discovered...whether you are "legal" with it or not.

you can have a gun in new york as long as it is unloaded and secured in a locked case in trunk or storage area. your destination must be a state where unlicenced possesion is permitted. you can also transport rifles and shotguns into new york as long as they are unloaded and secured in a gun case.

When I click on it a screen comes up and says "sorry no matches", just tried it again after I read your post, I must have a setting wrong or something.

you should pick up the book "Traveler's Guide to the Firearm Laws of the Fifty States" has really good info. i know a few drivers that carry multiple firearms in their trucks but most are owner ops.

And, you can not take a weapon into some plants &/or onto private property otherwise. If you try to & your searched, for example a chemical plant, you will probably be banned from that plant. As well, they will probably call the police & get them involved for one reason or another. In either of these cases, your employer/broker/company your leased to, probably isn't going to be very happy with you.

There are certain things those rent-a-cops can do, and certain things they cannot do. One thing they cannot do is tear apart a truck looking for "prohibited" items. If you were dumb enough to leave it out in plain view, then they are probably going to find it. As long as it is not in plain view, they won't know it's there.
I've got a long time friend (grew up with him) who works security at a nuclear power facility, and we've had this discussion before. There are several places inside the cab of my truck that he would be fired if he attempted to search, because they are not allowed to remove parts & pieces of the truck...no matter how easily those parts & pieces might pop in & out. I could (if I wanted to) stow a firearm so that I could access it in less than 2 seconds from the driver's seat...and HE'D be the one getting fired if he found it.
Needless to say, what they don't know won't hurt 'em. If you're going to carry, don't be stupid about it. Nobody else needs to know you've got it. You should NEVER brag about it or advertise that you've got a firearm, because it puts a target on your truck...go inside the truck stop to eat, shower, or pay for your fuel and guess what's missing when you return? Nobody else should EVER know you're packing unless and until you need to use it...and if they are threatening you enough that you're showing it to them, they should hear it & feel it as it comes into their view.cetanediesel Thanks this.
