I was thinking about possibly getting into trucking and I found a school half an hour away that would cost $2800 and take about a month to go through. I have a carry permit in my own state and know how to get a permit in several others so that with reciprocity between a few permits I could carry in over 40 states plus Illinois just legalized carry. I was wondering if it is still possible to make money and work if you avoid the areas like DC, New York, California that are run by people who hate the Constitution and the right to keep and bear arms and have set up their states permit system so that non-residents can't get a permit. With the recent passage of a Carry Law in IL carrying firearms is now legal in all 50 states, but in some states non residents cant get permits and some states are may issue with anti-gun rights people that deny most everyone( Los Angeles county for example).
Are there any companies that are friendly to the safety of their truckers? Are their many that are not and that ban their truckers from carrying the means to defend themselves? I'm sure there have to be some, but are most of them like that? Is it possible to make money and secure work in this industry and still carry the means of defending oneself?
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/trutha...cealed-weapon-permit-and-the-cdl-truck-driver Before listening to this I wouldn't have gotten into trucking without the ability to take my little friend with me (Shelby the Glock). This guy makes truck driving sound downright scary. What you guys have to deal with is ridiculous. Your rig should be legally considered your home, it would make things so much easier.
To be honest if the company I was working for hired my own personal armed body guard or a few ninjas then I would be willing to truck without Shelby.

Where do you live?
Ozark doesn't run NYC or Canada and is 100% no-touch freight. -
Asked and answered tons of times. Use the search function. You may be legal to carry, but almost none of the companies for drivers starting out allow you to carry. Also many states have laws against having a weapon in a commercial vehicle.
I go into NYC, DC, Chicago, Detroit, all the time and have never needed a gun. -
If drivers have to worry everytime they turn their backs then find another line of work.Your firearm could get into the worng hands like say you went into the trk stop to shower, eat ect.Sure you can keep them in lock boxes and break your companies policies but in the long run is it really worth it?Heck you can get jacked in your own personal vehicle. If you feel trk driving is that dangerous that you need means of defending yourself with fire arms then why get into this profession?
seamallowance and Richter Thank this. -
There are cases where if a river had a gun he may still be alive, not that long ago a driver out of NY State was murdered in a easy going South Carolina town. It made big news in the Trucking industry. But 99.9% of the companies looks at guns as a way to fire you if your caught with one.
If you all who says if you need a gun trucking should not truck, sorry to inform you it getting where you need to carry a gun just going shopping in your personal car.Ooops Thanks this. -
If you do a search, you'll find that this topic has been beaten to death. These threads normally degenerate into the same members making the same arguments that turn into the same insults. They almost never end well.
Try an advanced search for firearms and you'll have plenty of reading. Here's a 1,400 post thread to get you started:
