Hey guys, question about the Valve Group Warm-Up Solenoid controler for the IVA on my 2005 C15 MXS. I had a code 95 and replaced the oil sensor on the top of the motor next to the front valve cover. Now I'm noticing that the warm-up control solenoid just in front of the sensor (sticking laterally out of the engine) is clicking (cycling) when I turn the key to the 'on' position. It cycles for about 20 seconds or so regularly about every second. Is this normal? I've never noticed it before and I'm wondering if this is causing some rough-running issues especially when colder than about 150-160 degrees. Any help is greatly appreciated. The CAT part # is 228-4800.

The rough running condition your talking about is that when you first start down the road and is sputtering or coughing, and puffing out smoke? My MXS will do that too from time to time if I don't let if warm up properly. Code 95 is intake valve actuation oil pressure sensor. Sounds about right on the one you replaced. Should be on the front passenger side of motor by t-state housing. When I turn my key on I also hear clicking noises in the engine area. Sometimes it lasts a short time others it will go on longer.

I will tag @GrapeApe for you he is very knowledgeable on the acerts. Good luck

Yes, I. Can't really put a load in it until it's good and warmed up without it sputtering like the Jake is kicking on a bit. Just had the overhead set not too long ago and had a new IVA installed at that time.

Before all these parts you replaced, did it run fine before?

No, it ran like crap. I replaced two Injectors, an exhaust spring, and the IVA head and all studs upgraded. Ran great for a few months up until recently when it threw the 95 code and I replaced the oil sensor for the IVA system. Now it had a definitive stumble when cold and a slight feeling of a slight miss under a load. Oil and fuel pressure are good.

I am getting stumped now. I wonder if there is something wrong with 1 of the other 4 injectors? Is it throwing any codes at you when it is running rough?

The check engine flashes but then goes back out. I need to stop into the shop and have them double check that the injector trim codes were entered properly. I'm not too familiar with the the ecm, but I was going to have them check to see of there are stored codes or something.

If there is any stored codes you can retrieve them from using your cruise control toggle switches. To check that you turn your key on, turn your cruise control switch off and then hold your set/resume switch down for a few seconds, then release. Watch your check engine light flash. If it flashes 5 times, then a slight pause, 5 more times (code 55) then that means no codes active.

The rough running problem your describing is most likley the water recirculation valve at the precooler no functioning...they help the motor warm up also by either not allowing or allowing coolant to circulate threw the precooler core. Their is a diaphram behind the valve that can go bad but usually its the 2 wire harness that goes to it and routed behind the turbo and very close to manifold...it becomes melted and brittle from heat and they can short out on motor or themselves not allowing the valve to work. In my experience it normally doesnt through a code. Youll have to run new wires from where they come out of the main harness near the front of the cylinder head by the fuel inlet line. I usually run them up and over the alternator bracket away from the manifold and connect it to the valve near where the heater hoses are fastened to the frame. Stops them from melting again. Hope this helps.
