I have been reading the posts about this and have not been able to find an good answer to this question.
My company just opened a hub in Waco, TX. We will be delivering to our stores and straight to customers homes all over Texas. A few times a week there will be routes over 150 miles one way. The trucks are 2018 24' box trucks that take diesel fuel, have new emissions and air brakes. G.V.W.R. is 26,000. When I went to get tag they said we will need CDL to drive. Left there went to the DPS and showed them the certified weight documents and picture of the trucks. They said we will need CDL. Yet I am being told by other hubs and drivers that CDL is not required. Can anyone help me? What do I need to do, go flag down a State Trooper and ask?
CDL or Not?

Post a photo of the GVWR. I don’t think it’s 26,000 - probably 26,001, in which case you would need a Class B.

Try a different DMV office. It's like doctor shopping for a DOT physical.

No it is not. Cdl is 26001 pounds and over. This truck is 26000 pounds. No CDL required.

Individuals are required to have a CDL if they operate a motor vehicle:
- With a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more,
- Which transports quantities of hazardous materials that requires warning placards (signs), or
- Designed to transport 16 or more passengers including the driver.
