I have my cdl permit. Can the person training me still allow me to drive when his hours are up?

Yes... But he will still need to be in passenger seat on duty. He won' be able to drive till he take a 10 hr off dty/ sleeper break. Which means you will have to find a parking spot.

He should be logging on duty not driving and be in the passenger seat. As long as he is not driving his hours will never be up. Although some companies have got an exemption from the FMCSA to allow a clp driver to drive with the trainer in the sleeper( run teams).

Yes. A driver with a permit has to have a licensed driver in the passenger seat in order to drive
He has to be on duty while in the passenger seat. He can be on duty during your whole 11, but he needs to take a 10 before he can drive again.

    No.

Now if he had onduty time to sit in the pax seat and train you, then you both are good to go.

The Carriers are trying to chisel out a Permit as a subclass citizen type situation where they can toss Minor people into the cab and get that truck moving.

@x1Heavy no rule on length of time for on duty. Trainer can be on duty for 24 hrs straight. Just won't be able to drive till trainer takes a 10

    x1Heavy Thanks this.

So. If the Trainer has a barrel of Coffee he can sit there in that Pax Seat 70 hours while Permit Person does everything driving.

    Nice...

I have a problem with that actually.. but that's for another day.

I appreciate your update and corrections, I learn something every day.
