Would it be better to go to a traditional CDL school vs. company training. I'm wondering about after a year or whatever the company contact is, would it matter either way if looking at going to another company?

Companies don't care if you went to private school or trucking company school.
CFI has their own school in Joplin, Missouri and the company has a good reputation with drivers. www.cfidrive.com

Not in Nevada! They killed the program in 2005 with a debt of quarter million.

It is probably better to go to a local CDL school. I don't think any company pays you when in their CDL school. You're away from home then.
There are federal grants for CDL school. Check into that.
On the after a year. No problem leaving. They got their money's worth. Only problem with the year contract. Some companies may ruin your finances by the year's end. It's happened. Working for bankruptcy?
Getting the CDL ahead of time shows initiative ahead of time. Also opens up other possibilities you didn't have.

Roehl Transport does, but they hold back 3 weeks pay and you have to deal with a hair follicle test and a contract to do "X" number of miles. I'd still go with CFI though because those drivers do some super long runs.

The community college killed their program but the state pays for private training. Just to clarify.

All schools will teach you enough to get a CDL. No company will take on a no experienced driver with just a permit.

If you took company training and signed a contract to repay them, remember that your first two years is probably the most dangerous and fragile time due to being dismissed, fired etc for accidents and other problems in your first year. You will be held responsible for thousands to repay back right away.

It's best to go to the school and get it done with a CDL from your state. Once you have that then there is a additional process of training. DO NOT get wrapped up in that thinking just yet. You will be wanting out of that trainers truck long before you are ready to be given a truck in time.
