I have been lurking on this site for a couple of months now, but a first-time poster, and I'm getting ready to start a new career. I have recently spoken to a couple of O/O's and I'm convinced this is what I want to do with my life. The job I'm in now is.. lackluster. I have scoured the forums and I really can't find a lot of posts about people in Arkansas. I plan to get my own truck and trailer and work locally with a hopper bottom, but I know insurance is going to slaughter me. I currently have my CDL permit, with double/triple and tanker endorsement. I grew up my entire life on a farm, so big equipment doesn't scare me. One of those O/O's took me out a couple weeks ago driving, roughly an hour or so. He was very surprised I had never been on the highway in a truck (I only cut the corner on my first right turn with the trailer!). I feel like I wouldn't have a problem passing my CDL pre-trip/skills/driving, but, honestly, I'm scared to death of the tests.
I am debating if it would be best to go ahead and get in with a company that does training for the CDL test. My problem with this is that I really want to stay local, both in training and in driving. Opinions? If you have any suggestions, I am all ears, or eyes.
Thanks for any and all responses.

Here is my biggest issue with that; I have a full time job. I can't afford to disappear for weeks to attend driving school. I am really stuck between a rock and a hard spot here, and I know it. I am looking for a needle in a pile of haystacks, and, as I said, I appreciate any and all help you're offering.
Some cdl schools have weekend classes for those that can't afford to quit their full time job.
Some companies pay while attending their cdl school
Western Dairy Transport pays hourly plus meals and lodging. After graduation are paid drivers pay.
Roehl Transport pays salary of $616.00 weekly while attending their school, then at graduation pay drivers pay.
Also, pays for meals and lodging while attend the cdl school.
