$4000 bucks is too much. I already passed the DMV writtens and I have a DOT medical. I can rent a Class 8 truck for a 3-4 mornings and I think I will be ready for the DMV driving test ( I already know how to double clutch). I know this is not enough to go on the road. I am willing to go through a carrier's orientation and do the 4-6 weeks with a trainer. My question is: Will the major carriers hire me without have gone through an "approved" school?

    Thanks?

Simply put...NO!!!! their insurance companies would never allow it...

Since you want to reinvent the wheel you may be able to find an outlaw company who will give you a ragged out truck to drive and pay you half what you could get elsewhere then if you make it there a couple of years without acquiring too many csa points for driving bad equipment then a starter company might hire you.

If you paid for the school most companies have a tuition reimbursement program.

Maverick probably would hire you give them a call they were willing to take me when my friend was gonna teach until I got a workforce voucher to go to school. Your next option is trying to get the city to pay for you.

You can do it just need to find a small to medium company. You don't want to work for the BIG companys anyways.

Lol This ain't the 60s, man.

With no formal training, you're asking the company to put a lot of trust in your limited abilities.

You could more than likely get hired on for some type of local labor, such as aggregate/construction, beverage company, trash hauler etc. You are going to have a tough time going with a regional or OTR outfit though. Not saying it isn't possible, but it isn't likely.

I got my CDL hauling OilField OJT. No fancy paid school, didn't go to the Community College. Did that for 1 1/2 years before OTR. Don't worry about those who believe you have to do it they way did. Just have to be willing to work.

Id say there will be more scrutiny for hiring drivers since the Historical Bridge incident? The guy got his license and then 30 days later wiped out a million and a half dollar restored Historical bridge. Had only been driving a truck for 5 days. Id say a lot of trucking companies took that in? Everybody makes mistakes but that one may cost a trucking company its business.

    Where are you located, city/state?
These days your lucky to find a job with no formal training; you probably can, but it won't be worth the time and struggle. The insurance companies have to approve your job application and they won't risk insuring someone with no formal training.
