When I worked for a large agency in management that worked with individuals who experience developmental disabilities I used to teach risk management classes. To the supervisors and staff. Not my background, but I was well versed in potential employer exposure. And if the above is true of coastal Oregon trucking, (a company I always thought was one of the good ones), they are really, and I mean really sticking their neck out. The fines Can be up to the six figure range and it’s per incident. You don’t get to intentionally screw anyone’s paycheck, yes even a truck driver. employers do make mistakes on payroll and this is expected and as long as they fix it in a timely matter, everything is fine. Keyword being “intentionally“401K employer matching contributions are considered a benefit, but they are usually contractually assumed between the employer and the employee and if that is in place, then the company is obligated to fulfill those agreed amounts. Now in your original message, you didn’t say how many years because 401(k) money is subject being clawed back based on how many years you work. The standard rule of thumb is your 100% vested at five years. You get 20% vested in their contributing amount for each year that you work. Some companies stretch it to six years. And some companies set it at four years. so that may have been what happened to your 401(k) if you only been there for maybe two or three years they probably took most of it back. You need to read your employee handbook on this part.

    Whoa..

I used to watch Joe Seppi's Youtube channel, he was a COTC OTR driver for years, would document his daily life OTR at COTC.

    Pretty good flatbed driver.

Noticed he got out of COTC about 9 months ago to take a local job, and hasn't posted since.

Guess he saw the writing on the stall.

His quote as to why he was leaving (again) was "I love my friggin' wife". If I remember correctly, this wasn't the first time he left COTC.

All of the former Daseke companies have the same 401k program. The drivers are 100% vested day one. The match all of 3% and half of 4-5%. So if a driver puts in 5% they put in 4%.

all that being said, after TFI took over our payroll, the match contribution line disappeared from my pay settlement. They were still matching my contributions though. In a year and I half I didn’t get $8k worth of match and I make way more then the average COTC driver from what I understand.

This thread was posted by a brand new member who has not come back since.

Well, 100% vested right out of the gate is a pretty good deal. And pretty rare from what I’ve seen. But yeah, you got a check on that stuff every once in a while. Make sure those contributions are going where they’re supposed to go. As I’m getting older, I have my contribution set extremely high. In fact, next year, I plan on contributing 25%. Makes a pretty good difference in the amount of taxes you pay of course you pay it when you start accessing it but when I access it, I’ll be old on Social Security and won’t, get that much because I’m only at time My main concern is that the stock market is at an all time high PE ratio and is due for an adjustment that WILL happen eventually.

Nah he isn’t alone. I personally met 2 drivers at their facility that made the same claims as well as being cheated on miles several times, both were leaving that day.
