You and me both!! I'm lucky enough that Klingon has had prior experience (thank you Lord) because the amount of 'training' he is getting, we would be lost!!

Hi to all the hard working truckers out there. I am a newbie and have been following this thread for some time now. I will be training in SLC Feb. 7. I am very excited and nervous at the same time.

Make sure then that you ask your trainer about it....
When you get a load, the first stop you make should be a CatScale.
A wieght ticket can be costly....

They reason you would want to go back to company is so that you can make up for all the money you lost leasing. Central can and WILL charge you when you are done with leasing! Cost us just over $5300! On a brand new truck! Leasing is very, very tough for single drivers. Hell its tough on a team. There were a few times we wished we could go back to company but at the time Central did not allow it. Everything is fine and dandy when you are making miles but when you get ONE week of not running hard it easily puts you in the hole. You get one week in which you break down and it really can put you in the hole! New drivers don't usually see this coming. It's tough when they offer you a brand new shiny truck with no money down! Oh yeah, home time buries you quick too!

Ive been leasing for almost a year, Im on my second truck. First was a 2009 KW T2000, and it was a piece of junk. I whined for long enough and they got me out of that truck without releasing it and I kept my performance bond and all other stuff. I've got a 2011 Prostar Limited now, got it brand new in September, and I just broke 50k miles this morning. You can make money and get good miles if you want it, but be prepared to work harder and longer than a company driver to do it. Leasing is not for everybody, especially at Central, but I am a solo driver (most of the time) and I do just fine. Ive had weeks where I made $400 for 1600 miles and weeks Ive made negative on 2000+, it all depends on how you fuel and how persistant you are about loads. I run as hard as the planners will let me and I dont go home but every 2-3 months, usually for 3 or 4 days. Last week I did 3700 miles and Im already at 2300 this week by Monday morning (Im sitting in Phoenix because I have 2 hours left on my 70...working off a recap). The point is, plain and simple, if you like running your tail off you can make pretty good money as a Solo Lease Operator. Taxes are probably the most difficult part of it all.

Hey JW one reason you are probably doing ok is because you aren't afraid to stay out for two or three months. A lot of guys don't realize that.
