So I'm due to graduate at the end of April with my CDL-A license, tanker, doubles/triples and HAZMAT endorsements and am researching trucking companies. After reading many of the written posts here on the forums, I think I want to begin my career on a flatbed. I want more physical activity, increased challenge and better pay that seems to come with it. I was hoping that some of you seasoned or not drivers, whom have flatbed experience could tell me some of the best companies around my area of Tucson to apply with. Here is what my priorities are:
- Find a company with a family atmosphere where I'm a person and not a number.
- New and well maintained trucks with APU's and Qualcomms.
- Priority hometime for the driver at least one day per week driving.
- Good pay for my time spent on the truck whether driving or not.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

not sure of companies in that area but check out Prime , Maverick , Melton. all have newer equipment.

Thank you Critters. Looks like Melton and Maverick are not hiring in this area, but Melton might make an exception since I'm pretty close to the edge of their zone. I'll look into Prime.
critters Thanks this. -
Melton would be my first choice, but prime is a good company

I like what I'm hearing about Melton so far. It seems like most of the comments on this forum are positive so far. The only item that makes me hesitate is hearing drivers talk about not getting enough miles.

I would check into Roehl and System Transport as well. Also, try getting into Watkins Shepard. You get put on a list for flatbedders when doing van.

System Transport is a good one. Good website also.

System or Roehl if you want to be home often. I live there and started with swift flatbed because I didn't have my CDL, if I had my CDL I would have went with System. TMC might hire out of there also.
