I am a over the road truck driver with over 2 years experience. I recently received a citation for possession of alcohol while operating a CMV. My company fired me for this.
I am wondering a few questions...
1. Does this prevent me from finding a new truck driving job.
2. How hard will it be to find a new truck driving job?
3. Does this go on my driving record, or any other record?
4. How long will it stay on said record?
5. How many points will this be on said record?
Thank you for all feed back...

Wow. I got questions of my own.
1. When did you get this citation?
2. Where did you get this citation?
3. How did you get this citation?(inspection or parked at the truck stop)
4. Why did you get this citation?(why were there no precautions taken if you're going to consume alcohol)
5.Have you paid the citation and if not, do you have an attorney? Maybe there's a chance you can get it reduced. Others can chime in on that.
Alcohol events are a big deal in this industry. If you can't get that charge reduced or thrown out, many companies won't even touch you for at least 3 years. Mine certainly won't. It's a chance that you'll have to enroll in a Substance Abuse Program(SAP). I imagine that it's going to be difficult to impossible to find a driving job, especially since it's not a driver's job market right now. It'll definitely go on your driving record for sure. It would have been one thing if you got fired without the citation. The company may have reported it on your DAC as a company policy violation. The citation is a big deal.Tb0n3, surf_avenue, Lav-25 and 4 others Thank this. -
SOME companies may hire you, but only you can decide if they are places you want to work at.
Dump truck may be an option for anyone with a felony or alcohol/drug issue that makes it hard to get hired OTR.
It will likely be on your PSP Report fir at least 3 years & if this was a moving violation it will be on your MVR for longer. If you can get through the next 3 years things should start getting better if you don't add more problems.
Companies will want a short & convincing explanation & will be looking to see if you take responsibility & if you have changed since this event. -

First off thanks for the reply. To answer your questions...
1. I just got it a few days ago.
2. Kentucky
3. It was a random pull over by state police. I did not do anything to be pulled over. They saw a 12 pack I had. From a 34 hour reset I had a few days ago. I forgot to throw away before driving.
4. Precautions I took was. I was safely on a 34 hour reset. Knowing I was not going to drive anytime soon. However, I forgot to throw out the beer cans before departure.
5. I have not paid the citation yet or looked into attorney.Oxbow, austinmike and blairandgretchen Thank this. -

2nd., I take it you not at home for the reset?
3rd., a 12 pack in less than a day and 1/2? You have a problem.Concorde Thanks this. -
Actually, let’s run the numbers. Assuming you left out on the road 34 hrs 1 min after you logged out. Legally, you cannot consume alcohol for 10 hours before driving, that leaves you 24 hours to drink 12 beers, assuming you possibly took a nap sometime? Sure hope that beer was worth it. You deserve to have been ###### canned fired, hope your employer yanked out of the truck, and had find your own way home.
Concorde Thanks this. -
I only drank 4 of the 12 beers. I stopped drinking 24 hours before I departed. The Cop saw the opened 12 pack with a few cans missing. He gave me a breathalyser. I blow 0.00. I just forgot to toss it away before driving.
I appreciate any & All advice. At this point I am just concerned with my ability to find future trucking jobs.Oxbow, Opus, austinmike and 3 others Thank this.
