I’ve been researching the sight about a fifth wheel combinations I saw on a Ram 5500 with no success. Does anyone know the pros and cons of a class 8 fifth wheel attached to a pickup instead of the typical raises set up? Thx

Class 8 fifth wheel are rated for 80k lbs while the smaller 5th wheels are rated for around 32k lbs.
Hotshot Dave on YouTube recently installed a class 8 5th wheel on his 5500. Shoot him a message if you have any questions about it.J.S. Thanks this. -
Heh. Go for it. I dont know what those #### things weight, bolts and all but have at it.

Thx 24k. The 80k and the 32k are both max pin weights, rights?

Don’t know why you’d bother unless you had one already for free since it is way heavier duty than a little truck would ever haul. Cab and chassis trucks have the same frame width as a full size tractor (which is basically also just a cab and chassis), so theoretically you could install a fixed position full size 5th wheel onto a 450 or 550 size truck. Would be a totally custom shop build though and most shops ain’t going to want anything to do with that. But if you can fabricate or know a guy who can it might be doable.
Check out these guys for some ideas maybe. www.hitchcrafter.com -
You can Not use a semi fifth on a fifth wheel trailer cause a RV fifth wheel moves side to side. You will tear up the king pin and plate.

I’m just wondering what this guy was doing with the setup and would it be beneficial with a 5 car hauler or possibly some other niche.

My 5th wheel camper doesn't move side to side... It tilts up and down like a class 8 does, and that's it's only movement.flood and Roberts450 Thank this. -
Holland makes smaller ones that fit the little trucks better, but are still intended for commercial duty. Not talking about RV 5th wheel hitches here.
