I have my Class A and have used it in the past for Flatbed and Dry van OTR and regional. However, for the past 1+ year I have been working for Builder's First source driving a straight truck with attached Moffitt delivering building supplies to job sites. Paid hourly with overtime and home daily.

Do you need experience to driver for Builder’s First Choice?? I’m in Jacksonville, FL.

I recently upgraded my class-b (I was a city bus driver) to a class-a with all endorsements and also got my TWIC but I’m not gonna survive Swift’s otr training .

I really wanna be local, because not knowing when I’ll be able to shower (plus my trainer keeps pushing me to pee outside because she only wants to sleep at the customer even when we don’t have to and there’s a truck stop near by) is killing me. The hours of highway driving isn’t an issue at all and my backing isn’t terrible (it could use some work but) it typically only takes me a few minutes to dock. The only issue is the unreliable access to a bathroom during the 10hr rest period, and that’s my trainer’s doing.

How long do you have to be with your trainer? The no bathroom thing would probably push me over the edge, but if you stick it out and get your own truck it is a completely different world.

I don't think any experience is required it just depends who else is applying. Obviously they would be more likely to take someone with experience over someone who does not. How much longer in training do you have? Also, could you request another trainer? Hope something works out for you!

I have 3 weeks left, but I got all my stuff off the truck ubered to a rental car and left her. Swift has text me asking what happened but I haven’t responded back. I know that’s bad on my part and I normally wouldn’t leave any job on bad terms but I’m not fluid with my personal hygiene.
That is a daily anchor for me, when I wake up I need to go to the bathroom! While there I can brush my teeth and groom myself a little, I just need 15 minutes. But she was so concerned with more miles and starting the drive clock at the customer even when we didn’t have to, because we were dropping and hooking no live load/unload smh. I felt like I was gonna snap and so I just left the situation.

    OldeSkool Thanks this.

Why have you not communicated any of this to Swift?
Don't you have your own advocate there, your training DL, or whatever they are called these days?
Such was the case when I first started at Swift.
Not the same person as your mentor's DL, they are only there for you.

Your mentor is being unreasonable and you need to stand up for yourself, and that is why that person is there for you.
You really need to respond back and tell them what has been happening.

Get a new mentor. I’m quite sure Swift doesn’t expect you to live like a dog.
