Want to see an escorted truck? Go sit on I-81 just before the South Bound Scales. You will see a Marmon , cream colored, and two drivers sitting in the front and one asleep in the back. If you pass it, look at the nice pretty HK in the dash holder! You might have seen the "tail" a black Ford SUV with tinted windows an American Antennas K40 and a few smaller ones in the roof and of course the dash held HK. There will be 2 that you will see and a few others you won't.
Before PrePass they didn't bother to stop at the scales and DOT didn't bother to chase them as they know all about messing with those trucks! The story was after those scales were built some DOT got a wild hair up his 6 when they didn't stop and the young officer almost got a probe! He got pulled over and was looking down the barrels of a few weapons for his transgressions and after a little lesson on who not to go running after the word got around to the guys that run that scale. Now that was a great "you ain't going to believe this crap" story you could hear at the old Daniel Boone 76 for a few years.
But yes, there are gooberment owned trucks for the more sensitive freight that no trucking company will ever get loaded with as we are not up to the task of hauling those types of "sensitive" loads and have the firepower to stop any questionable people who think they need that freight more than Uncle Sam does. As said above there is enough fire power in the truck and the escorts to fight a small war! The US Marshall's Service is the owners of most of them and they even have buses for transporting federal prisoners and yep even a few aircraft for the same job.

I wonder about getting one of those jobs. I'm goingto have to look into it. I would think for myself it may not be that difficult to get into something of that sort.
Yeah the gun inside of the pickup trucks that escort those trucks around according to my instructor was a 240G which is a 7.62/51mm and depending on which of the 3 gas settings you have it set on it will shoot between 650-950 rounds per minute. He said it was some of the most fun he had in the marine Corp.Nolelover61 Thanks this. -

240G,or do you mean 240B?Is there a G variant now?Just wondering.

We have our own site http://www.navynucweps.com/. If you go to history-photo archive-people you will see a faint picture of the goast fleet of the trucks we are talking about. BTW the first three pictures are from me and the middle picture has me standing in the back row 2nd from the left. I hope I don't get into trouble on this. -
In the marine Corp we didn't have 240B until 2007 and all they did was take the gulfs we had and convert them. The bravo does not have a variable gas setting like the gulf does.

o.k. bullchitting aside......These companies haul A & E loads for the DoD
TriState Motor Transit TSMT
R & R Trucking
Baggett
Boyle
Secured Land Transport (SLT)
Green Valley Transportation
Landstar
Chalich
Prestara
Might be a few others that I missed. All these carriers require DoD "Secret" clearances to haul their freight. All these carriers are team operations as someone MUST be in Attendance of the load at all times.
These companies hall for the Dept of Energy DoE
TSMT Tristate Motor Transit
R & R Trucking
The Ghost Fleet is owned by Tristate but the drivers are directly employed by the DoE. These drivers have "Q" clearances which only about 60 drivers nationwide have. The other DoE haulers have "L" clearances. I know I left a few other DoE haulers out but their names escape me. -
