Anyone who has done reefer for any significant amount of time has dealt with stuff like this. There needs to be serious reform for this part of the industry especially. Lumpers really are an archaic concept that need to go and even at the cold storage places that don't use lumpers, they still commonly pull ######## like this all the time on drivers.

Did Holland at least pay you whatever normal detention pay you would've gotten at the shipper had you not been late, since it wasn't your fault in the first place you were late?

And let me guess, the shipper wouldn't let you use the bathroom the 8 hours they kept you or at best, they had a disgusting portable toilet that hasn't been serviced in months?

This post needs to be pinned somewhere for any new drivers thinking about doing reefer, as a fair warning for what reefer drivers unfairly have to go through at these cold storage places. Thank you for posting both the good and the bad in this thread Cobra.

Holland is very good about paying detention. Obviously I'll be getting detention pay for the delivery in Elkton since I wasn't late for that one. However, I never questioned if I'll get detention pay for the pickup in Apopka because it wasn't my fault that I was late. I don't even have to wait until my paycheck comes to find out either. Since I sent the detention pay request last night on my tablet, I got a message first thing this morning that I will be getting detention pay on this load.

Due to the delay at the shipper I couldn't quite make the delivery in Kansas City yesterday morning so it got rescheduled for last night. In and out in an hour and deadheaded over to Edwardsville, KS to pick up a preloaded trailer going to Aberdeen, MD. 18 empty miles and 1111 loaded. Hooked to the trailer and shut down at the shipper for the night. Due to the 4th of July or possibly just the fact that the customer may not take deliveries on Sundays I won't be able to deliver this load until Monday night. Home time scheduled for the 8th so I assume I'll be getting a load home after Aberdeen.

I don't like to get too specific about the names of our customers

I was out in less than 2 hours thankfully. 12 hours really would have sucked when the appointment was 10pm. Plus, no real bathroom. Just a porta john.

2 hours is good for that place. Last time I was there, they still had bathrooms for the drivers, guess someone messed it up.

I guess I forgot to update. I'm home now lol. Picked up in Landover the morning after my delivery in Aberdeen. Took the load to Flower Mound, TX and they let me deadhead home from there. 65 empty miles and 1373 loaded.

That’s why I’ve been keeping the truck fully stocked with whatever I can fit into the fridge & freezer, plus canned & non perishable stuff. Usually I stock this stuff up when I’m at the house. I get 3 cases of water from Sam’s or BJ’s wholesale while I’m at it since the truck stops love to charge almost 5 bucks even for a single bottle of it. And then I’ll throw on a couple 12 packs of the “sparkling water” sodas or local made diet sodas.

What some places charge for even a regular sized meal is obscene… like 30 dollars or more for a meal at iron skillet… and even then it’s crap. And a lot of them have closed their restaurants up not really caring if drivers need food.
