Columbia steering gearbox adj/drag link replacement

I need to replace my drag link and adjust my gear box. The steering wheel wanders now and plenty of play in the steering wheel. Do I have to remove drag link first then adjust steering? Or do I replace the drag link then adjust the steering? Thank you all help is appreciated
