yes! cheaper, usually better education. not in it to just take your money. more options with more companys. It is best to find a job first then see where they approve your training.

Bottom line: Whether you attend a CDL school for four weeks or a community college for 10 weeks you are probably going to spend the same amount of time with a trainer. Just depends on you. Some states like Georgia have a Hope Grant that will pay for a community college but not a private CDL school. If you qualify for a WIA program then the Feds pay for a private CDL school. Also not all CDL schools are rip offs. Georgia has several that they consider to be excellent and produce good results. Personally I would rather spend the least amount of time getting my CDL then move on to the training stage. My research has indicated that your OTR time starts when they assign a truck to you.

He's rather spend less time getting his CDL. He is more likely confident in his abilities driving something larger than 4 wheels then you might be. So he prefers a 4 week class.
You might not be as confident and want as much time driving as possible. So a longer course would suit you, since you want to build confidence in your abilities.
It is how YOU think about it that decides which way you go. Cheaper, community college. You get more driving time (in most cases) and more book work. Pricier, private school. You may get less time driving and less time with book work. But either way, it's their job to teach you how to drive / operate the truck.. You learn the basics to pass the test. The company you choose will be the most important decision because they can make you or break you depending on their training / trainers. -
another good point is toask what is covered some schools only teach you to pass the cdl test.
Others will train you how to back up! parallel park. do a ninety or 45 degree dock
not all states require the same for license. but most companies do! -
looking at community college so i can still work and get a paycheck while getting my CDLs. I know that the company that i go to will train me in the ways of their company driving policies.
-
most good companies will have you do a driving test to see how much you know. make sure whatever school you go to teaches what you need to know
there was a court show that had a student who could not back a truck. and was sueing the school because he could not get a job. -
Well said Lantern.
