Went to apply at some company the other day which mentioned they deduct $50 a week from company drivers for insurance ($200 a month). They also mentioned if I'm found at fault in an accident the company pays up to $15,000 and I'm required to pay the rest and even have to pay cargo damage that isn't covered by insurance. They also mentioned if you're late for a delivery or pickup they deduct $35. Had to pay for my own drug test too.

This all seems very strange to me, didn't know it was quite legal to make drivers pay for those things especially company drivers. Pay offered was pretty well but they don't exactly pay any layover pay just mileage. $0.61 per mile (cdn$).

Should I take the chance at it or stay put where I am? Seems very sketchy to me.

Did they tell you that you’ll be an independent contractor paid 1099?
Unless no one else will here you just tell them to go #### themselves.
Cant believe that there are people that stupid to work for a companies like this. Again if you screwed up in the past and can’t get a job elsewhere that I can understand.
Post the company name on here would you

Probably pay household miles as well.. I suspect if you leave after a bit their will be damage late fees and other stuff to keep monies owed to you.. also if shipper takes too long loading it falls back on you to deliver on time or pay late fees

None of those companies exist.... in my world.. There are choices.. don't be desperate with as many jobs as there are available these days.

Sounds like a scam to me.
I have volunteered to pay for damages caused by my own stupidity as a good faith measure. But have never been required to do it.
They want you to pay for workers compensation too?
On second thought, I doubt they even have it..

Highlight motor freight, they have terminals in NJ, CA and Vaughan Canada. It was a company driver position.
