All the people who have serious problems with their current companies should go work for the above mentioned company. -
Well, sort of.... Typically, a financial institution actually 'owns' the truck... or perhaps investors.
I don't work for bottom feeder/governed truck 'cause it's gonna save us fuel B.S. company. However, many don't have this luxury. The point I was making is that it's a flat out lie to state governing a truck will produce better fuel mileage period! -
If you shift it properly you will get good fuel mileage. I have a Heavy foot meaning very rarely go the speed limit and get good fuel mileage. It took me a while to get there but when you do you will see governed trucks dont save on fuel. Why do you think all those reefers are flying down the highway with them pretty Pete's in front of them? Because they not making money? Yeah realy think about it.......

HMMMMM Slo-Poke is actually thinking logically here. Just like a select few of us here that realize driving a slow ##### 62MPH truck with a 435 cummins and a 9 speed gets the same if not worse milage then a trcuk with a big old 550 cat or a 525 cummins with a 13 or an 18 speed that can cruie at 75MPH no problem. WOW I just had a discussion on this forum the other day about this and there were so many people calling me an idiot for thinking a truck that has no speed limiter on it can actually turn out awesome milage and make more money.... hmmm like said above them big old California produce haulers with them big old long nose petes and those fancy stainless steel spread axle trailers runnin 90mph across NM and AZ at 2am must be doing something right to afford that truck and a trailer like that and still get HOME like most of them do.
Hmmm detuning a diesel is worse on milage then a turned up higher HP truck. More torque means more pulling power at a lower RPM which means less strain on the motor and in turn gives you better fuel economy.
Do I need to get more in depth?RubyEagle, MandieMD, carolinacrazyhorse and 5 others Thank this. -
Example truck in picture. Legal Gross 100,000 lots of times was a little on heavy side you could say. Maine to Massachusetts average 5 to 6 mpg. Now you thinking not good ha ha next time you run out of Ma up past Bangor Maine check your mpg. Now put at least 20,000 more on your truck. Hmmm..... what was your mileage at 62? OK Now I was doing it at 70 75 on average with long nose Pete 625hp Cat and 18 speed.
Must I sat more? Didn't think so
Iceman_biker and DEEMO Thank this. -
All very correct, which leads to a trick some savvy drivers use when leasing on to some of the big bottom feeders... they have someone turn up the torque without touching the high limit. Therefore, they still comply with the companies nazi-lease governed truck policy, and have a little more usable power... which in the right hands, can increase fuel mileage.

Savvy drivers don't lease to big bottom feeders!
Nor do they lease to anyone that tells them how fast they can run or that makes them install a Qualcomm.carolinacrazyhorse, runaway, DEEMO and 3 others Thank this. -
Thats not bad MPG at all for up here in Maine. I live up here above Bangor. to get 5 to 6 MPG your doing pretty good.
-
I have always thought you gear them fast and run them slow with plenty of power so the engine isn't working all the time you will get good mpg. I got great mpg from a bc3 in a cabover with a 13spd. when J.B was putting in 300's and 9spds trying to get the mpg I was getting. back in the early 80's
