My company is starting a new per diem plan. The weekly cost is $14.95. I'm not even sure how to judge if this is a good deal or not. I know formally companies have charged as much as 2¢ per mile which seems like it would be more expensive.

not sure what the 14.95 is for ... can't deduct road expenses for company drivers so irs can screw plans up at will ..l have a couple of trucks what I am doing this year is structuring 58.00 reimbursement per 10 hour break spent away from home. . so if the driver has earned 1500 that week but spent 3 nights out pay taxes on 1326 and 174 would be reimbursed for travel expenses. .. it's kinda skirting the law but my tax lady said it works. ... saves me the 6% on the 174 also

What are you talking about? Nothing anywhere says employers can no longer provide a qualified payroll "Per Diem Plan". I'm done trying to explain these matters if people aren't going to pay attention and continue to misunderstand the issue(s)

It's not that hard but it's like trying to get a fence post to understand the laws of physics.

that's right the irs didn't take away the per diem . just took away the itemized deduction from everything .... so individual drivers can no longer take this on the tax return. ... but still legal to get the reimbursement from your company for travel expenses. .. we are using 58.00 per day out. there's probably not going to be a standard government rate anymore

No. Tell them pound sand. Almost 800 a year to save you roughly $ 100 in tax. Hell of a profit they are turning, as well as shorting your ss payments.

Bottom feeder inc in full effect.
