Article from OOIDA
"The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association issued the following response today regarding the passage of the U.S. House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee’s portion of a new $3.5 trillion federal spending bill, which failed to provide funding for truck parking projects:
Todd Spencer, president and CEO:
“Despite the long history of broad, bipartisan support, numerous government studies and repeated pleas from truck drivers, Democrats on the T&I Committee opposed efforts to address trucking’s number one safety concern, the lack of safe parking. Truckers likely face another five years of a worsening crisis that jeopardizes their safety on a daily basis.
It’s tough to swallow the fact that in a year when Congress is authorizing hundreds-of-billions of dollars for infrastructure projects and highway safety programs, not a single penny was set aside for truck parking."

Of course because secretly democrats wanna eliminate trucking, it all makes sense why they're pushing vaccines onto truckers, to force them out ....they want cheaper drivers and autonomous trucks....autonomous trucks dont need to sleep afterall or eat, except fueling.....

Trucking always the last to get any support or none at all as in this case. Parking is a real issue and causes stress, stress causes high blood pressure, high blood pressure causes heart attacks and strokes. Hey truckers we love you though.

As a new driver , one of the MOST stressful things is trying to find parking after driving all day and night . Especially when you are exhausted and fatigued

Do you, or does anyone, expect anything from Congress anymore?
Rocks and TheLoadOut Thank this. -
Leave it to the private sector to create parking through new truck stops.
I love driving at night and never ever had a problem parking in an actual truck parking spot in 5 years otr.
Perhaps this industry should stop hiring snowflakes that only will drive from 9-5
Left a TS in KY at 11pm last night and there were plenty of easy spots to get into yet here are the unskilled fat lazy slobs parked on the curb at the entrance.buddyd157, I like manuals, TheLoadOut and 2 others Thank this. -
A good experienced well seasoned truck driver can always find himself a parking spot. Sometimes we have to get creative. Best way to avoid a parking crisis is to start early in the morning at like three or 4 AM and then stop early. Granted I do admit nationwide and in certain areas there is definitely a truck parking shortage. And the attitude is “just figure it out, wing it,“ and what they are really telling us is they don’t give a #### about truck drivers. There are certain places in Florida for example And even here in North Carolina were there literally are no truckstops. Zero. You have to get very creative if you run out of time in some of those areas.

The only thing that Congress is going to do for trucking is what they usually do…changed the rules and regs so that people who would never get a job trucking now qualify. The HOS is for people who are too stupid to figure out when to drive and when to pull over and sleep. If a person is too weak willed to stand up to a dispatcher, he/she should not be driving.
Speaking of snowflakes, I was just thinking about how we did things decades ago. This whole stay gone a month at a time stuff didn’t fly. As a long haul trucker, I used to run east to west and home Friday afternoon. So, when I come back to trucking in 07, they tell me that I can only come home 3 days a month. What’s the point of having a home?
I used to stay at the shippers and receivers. Truck stops were for fueling, grabbing lunch and using the pay phones. Why can’t I stay at shippers and receivers today? We all know why. Some fat, smelly POS scum of the earth subhuman came in there, shat all over the bathroom, and dumped refuse all over.
Now, the interesting point about all of this is that your POS subhuman driver only exists in certain areas of the industry but the entire industry suffers for it. When you pull high value loads, your customer will usually not have a problem with you staying on property. In fact, some provide dinner and a break room.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you guys had better raise your standards. Automated vehicle will remove the overwhelming majority of the scum seemingly overnight.Rocks, drvrtech77, Northern Nomad and 3 others Thank this. -
Hmmmm.......on one hand people bellyache about too much government intervention. Then on the other hand those same people want government intervention for truck parking?! Those folks are so fickle. Anyway, so....my question to the OOIDA crybabies is, what do you expect Congress to do about truck parking? The reality is, you ain't always going to be able to park at the truck stop. Sometimes you'll have to sleep at the weigh station...I do that in KY. They don't bother you there. Sometimes you'll have to park right outside a toll booth.....I do that in some parts of Oklahoma. It don't have anything to do with whether Congress is Democrat or Republican controlled....they don't care! Truck parking is not on the top of their bucket list. Everyone loves to fill up the corporate truck stops first. I guess we need to petition Congress to make the corporate truck stops build more locations, though Love's seems to be ahead of that curve and the TA/Petro is lagging behind the times some.
mjd4277 and I like manuals Thank this.
