A little guidance needed here folks. I know many are not willing to deal with running to Canada. Could anyone with experience highlight some of the legalities to overcome, the reasons that folks shy away from it, etc. Is their a financial incentive here? How do loads pay in and out of the great north? Worth looking into? Any feedback appreciated.

Only thing I can lighten you about Canada is the logs! You do need to understand a few of their regulations that you must follow even if you stay under the US regulations. If you are interested in that let me know. There is a thread about it below also.

Canada changed their MTO Regulations on 1-1-07 and some of their changes did affect the USA drivers.

    Have a great night

Well I have been to Canada several times, never had an issue..
I prefer the PARs (Pre-Arrival System) this is where the broker will do all the paperwork before hand.. you place a few bar code stickers on your documents, pull up to the border they scan it and your on your way..

Manual you have to pull into customs, have them stamp a form, then you have to walk down to your broker office (and sometimes its a good distance away, (1/4-1/2 mile) then walk back to customs, and have them enter it all in the system a few stamps and your on your way.. (a bit of a hassle if thing don't go right)

    Far as driving,

I see noting really different. many low bridges in town and they are marked in metric so make sure you know your height in metric (rand mcnally has conversion in front)
People (customers) are very nice up there and generally get you in and out.. Very helpful to you if you have any question on directions or anything like that..
Fuel stops can be tricky and just make sure you plan this out well cause it may be awhile before you see another fuel stop..

Pay? your not going to get paid anymore then you do here in the US. Some companies pay you something like $10-25 to cross the border but most don't..
There are some specialized companies that run far north and over iced over lakes and such that get paid more, but they are "Specialized" companies and they just don't let anybody do it..

Ash: I just sticky thread the Canadian MTO (DOT) regulations so that discussion is about the 6th discussion down from the top in Trucking Industry.
If you have more questions let me know. I will do my best :biggrin_25519:
