They have a small dedicated fleet.
They sometimes run a national fleet truck in to pull a few loads when they are busy. I got stuck with it one time, and refuse to do it again. The load out, and back, were both illegal for the trailer bridge laws. Nobody at Lincoln knew what I was talking about. They acted like I was making it up, told me to run with it, no such thing. I'm wrong.
Finally somebody told me that the trucks on the dedicated fleet have 'blanket permits' to cover the bridge law problems. I don't know if that is true, or legal, BUT I am not impressed with a driver I met from that dedicated fleet, who claimed I did not know what I was talking about, that there was nothing illegal with it. (then why does he have the claimed blanket permits?)
I pulled a loaded 20ft container with 40,000 pounds in it to northern virginia. I thought they would have me bring the empty back, then my problems would be over. No, they sent me to western PA to reload, and they put even more weight in the #### 20ft container. I went to the nearest cat scale, weighed it, got out my tape measure, and started the 'bridge scale' discussion again.
I was told I was wrong, didn't know what I was talking about, no such thing...blah blah blah...by multiple office jerks in Lincoln. Finally, i was told to 'stay where you are, we will send one of the dedicated drivers who has the proper blanket permits to pick up this container from you.'
Again, I am totally wrong, and making up the bridge formula rules, and don't know what I am talking about, but at the last minute, they magically have a 'dedicated driver with the proper blanket permits', for a load the office jerks in Lincoln, kept telling me didn't need permits. (I gave them weights, axle spacings, etc)
OK, so I waited. 24 hours. The 'dedicated driver' shows up, starts cursing, screaming at me at the top of his lungs, profanity....'You are the XXXXXXX who caused me not to get home this weekend!! XXXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXX!!!!!!!!!' His mouth was going, but he had already dropped the container he brought in at the far end of the truck stop (40 foot, and lighter and legal) and he had bobtailed over, and was screaming at me at the top of his lungs when I handed him the paperwork for the container I had dropped, and was parked in front of. He never got out of the truck, but called me every obscene name his feeble mind could remember....and I admit, although I was initially calm, but disgusted from waiting for 24 hours, I returned the favor and called him a few choice names toward the end of the 'discussion'. He was a real piece of crap, and I'm sure his family was glad he didn't make it home that weekend.
Class act you are running here, Crete. I've talked to other 'road' drivers who have had the same problem, sent in to haul these containers, and it's like you are dealing with a company who just got into trucking yesterday, and not one who has been at it for years.
I don't know what I'm talking about.....more than a few phone answerers in Lincoln told me so. I have been driving 20+ years, and have pullled containers out of ports on the east, west, and gulf coasts, hauled the crappy things coast to coast.
I don't know anything about the 'bridge laws' which don't exist, according to Lincoln.
This is how crete is being run, today. I heard rumors it used to be a good company. They put money into print ads, and billboards, but really don't give a #### about the drivers.
And yes, I've run into the same type of stuff with other companies I worked for. Your average ####### won't know about or understand the 'bridge formula'. They may have moved these containers hundreds of times without being caught, but that does not mean it's legal. -
Does anyone else have any info. on is container fleet? How many miles.are they making money?Wait at ports/rail yards?Any thing?
