Coolant issues and possible hidden camera

When the coolant light comes on is the coolant level in fact low? How long after you check and refill does it get low again? If you’re checking it daily and it’s suddenly low multiple times there might be an issue that needs addressed.

 

I bet there's a way to remotely stop your ignition, dealerships have been able to do that for a long time if someone misses a payment, but I can't imagine them doing something that could destroy the truck just to get their driver to stop.

 

All new vehicles are rolling data centers so anything is possible. Spyware is possible.

The coolant loss issue is common with everything now because the manufacturers love to keep temps high to cook these new age engines. Coolant boils off and evaporates. It is not the same as it used to be. Used to be if you poured coolant on the ground it would stay there for long time. Now it disappears and evaps off like water does.

 

Before i retired our little 3 truck operation had the ability to disable a truck from the office desk computer. Shut down if idled to long. Send warnings to driver if fuel or def was getting low, engine and trans temps getting too high. It monitored engine perimeters along with speed and location. The eld company we were working with were working on a program to physically change governor perimeters on trucks that were constantly speeding at an extra cost. So yes a big mega can control the fleet from a desk if need be.

 

And reservoirs are clear for the most part so it would be easy to see if somethings amiss if it's not the normal tank with the sensor.

To the OP, a lof of trucks have bogus coolant issues that are sensor related. If your coolant level is dropping or increasing or changing color that's when you have a mechanical issue.

company tablet or phone have cameras. Every phone I have has either a case, sticker, or sliding door to block any camera lens until I decide to use the camera.

 

If your losing coolant, it could several things, one, pressure radiator cap is weak and it’s releasing coolant at high temperatures but it would be obvious because you would see it over the front of the engine. Second, the shop probably could’ve over filled the reservoir and it to would cause loss of coolant, last one, you might have a coolant leak line somewhere and could be going there, it could a number of places.

 

There are some setups especially on new rigs that can interface with the ECM and CCU. The second the key turns they know everything. How hard you use the throttle, incline of the hills, how many and how hard you hit potholes, interior and exterior temps, coolant temps, how hard and often you brake, how you brake around curves and turns. How the truck is being driven in general, what rpm you shift at if manual or in manual mode. If you turn on the engine fan. What the AC is set to. What your seat is set to. Some even have built in sensors to see where your looking, how often you check your mirrors and so on without needing interior cameras.

Some of the really scary and nasty ones have AI now that compare you to an average of their choice. Or can compare your driving to your cam and flag "unsafe" driving habbits. Some can outright fire you for performance without a human ever so much as glanceing at anything.

Its pretty scary what they have access to in that truck nowadays without your ever knowing or needing to consent to. That said them sabatogeing the truck? Nope. More likely its burning off coolant. My paccrap always pissed through a gallon or so a month. Even my cummins uses around a quart every 10 to 15k miles and there is no leak. Just evaporates off from useage. Even used dye to see if it was leaking anywhere and only place i found dye was the vent.
