What does DEF cost per mile or however you look at it? My truck is older, so I have never bought it and have no idea how much is used?

Never thought about it...
Just put it in ....
Kinda like back in high school
Schwing.
Mmmm.....say I put in around $20 worth every 3 fill ups if I had to take a guess. Have a kw t660.
Wouldn't target it as a per mile thing but as a truck up time. Know it uses up a lot more just sitting at idle. -
I know the cost of running out of it and continuing to drive, $1800!
moosc Thanks this. -
Figure like this. Most DEF tanks are around 20 gals. So at current prices your looking at around 30-40 dollars. I run an average of 2800-3500 miles per tank depending on how much idling I do.

I get about 3000-3500 mi out of a 20 gallon tank, depending on how fast i drive how hard trk has to work. I have in a 250 gallon tote at home i fill trk up every weekend. Runs me right around 225.00 for the tote, and i put a 100.00 deposit down on the tote. A whole lot cheaper than trk stops or those 2.2 gallon jugsthat i see for sale for $20+ at auto part stores what a ripoff!

180-250 mpg for DEF. Fuel additives and idle will use more.

loves has it at 1.69 a gallon if your able to fuel there

On the Cascadia with dd engine, it won't actually run out, it will derate you to 55 mph top speed, and you can run at that until you get to the next stop down the road.
Happened to mine once, the tank didn't get topped off at the shop, and I was out over 4000miles since the last fill, as soon as the last segment went from green to amber, it derated. I ran maybe 40 miles on the Jane Addams westbound, until I got to the Loves at Roscoe,IL or the J at South Beloit, IL, I'm thinking it was the J but I fuel at both.
Topping it up took 20 gallons in a 23 gallon tank, so it stops you from going to far willingly with it on derate. I haven't run anything with another make of engine, so I can't speak for them. We get the DEF delivered in minibulk containers to the shop for somewhat less than the 2.79 at the pump, which is less than the packaged DEF they sell in the truck-stops and C-stores.
It cost nothing except being top speed derated a few miles, maybe 5 extra minutes of my time.Lady K Thanks this.
