This may be sort of dumb but I have never done flatbed or anything in that part of the industry though it was my intent when I started. Today I saw a really nice looking Pete 389 pulling a covered wagon and was wondering what kind of loads they carry. Is it general flatbed stuff or particular types of freight? I know, its a silly question but nevertheless, I don't know the answer. Thanks, Vinny

I think they haul about anything a normal flatbed would haul. I’ve seen them loading lumber on one. The whole top tarp and framework just folds up at the front of the trailer then slides back over a load. A quick and easy way to tarp it basically. Obviously you aren’t going to haul oversize loads on one like you could on a normal flatbed though.

Oh and by the way the super truckers usually call it a curtain side trailer.

Usually a covered wagon is steel. More than that, usually coils. A curtain side is not the same as a covered wagon.

I mainly hauled coils. The sides & tarp can be broken down to convert to a regular flatbed. I don't care to do that often & then setting it back up.

I mainly haul coils, machinery. But like the USPS. If it fits, it ships!

Depends. My uncle does covered and hauls more or less the same things as any other flatbad save for oversized. he tends more towards steel, coils, various construction materials, bags of whatever or other things that dont do well being wet. But he has had pretty much all the normal flatbed loads otherwise.

They are called conestoga’s or Connie’s.
Curtain side’s have a hard roof.
