When cold calling or attempting to create accounts, what's a good starting point as far as price per mile? Keep in mind they will most likely counter offer and you settle somewhere in between. Im a firm believer in standing by you're rates. Im new to the business and i have 3 small car lots to service but not nearly enough work to stay busy. I often hear that the 3 car wedge guys kill the market. While im sure most drivers would like larger setups, some have to start small. So before i set my rates, id like to hear what some of you larger carriers think. I was told $ 2.00 per mile is a good start.

Morons kill markets, doesn't matter what kind of truck they run.

And yes $2/mi for every odometer mile was my minimum with a 3/4 car

My truck and trailer are paid for. Fortunately i was able to pay cash. 1000 per month for insurance. Plus fuel. I cant base that on my rates because when i buy new, ill be cutting my own throat.

The standard in the trucking industry are rates based off mileage from Rand McNally HHG. Zip to zip.

Depreciation, repairs, road service, downtime. You won't live long there, you're about to hung yourself soon with that mindset, you just don't get it yet

What are you talking about? I asked about rates. Im aware of the overhead. What dont i get? I said i paid cash for my setup. I told him i wont charge based on my overhead because my equiptment is paid for and when i buy new, my rates wouldnt cover the costs if i set them to low. Help me out or get off my thread.
