    Any speeding ticket aficionados here....?

A co-worker got a speeding ticket, 73MPH in a 45MPH construction zone. Can he lose his CDL for this?

30 mph over? Yes. He will lose his CDL over this. And he should.

Only 28 over but you have to remember it's west Texas. Two lane black top where the regular speed limit is 75. Where the actual constructions is taking place was about 5 miles before where he got clocked. They set up a 30 mile stretch of road designated as a construction zone but no markers or barricades were in place where he was stopped. I hope he can get it dismissed or at least reduced. I hauled four loads through there today and was passed every single time because I was going 45. A couple of guys passed me on the right shoulder..haha

It's still 28-30 mph over and in a construction zone. West Texas or West New Jersey, it's not only stupid, but dangerous as hell. A CDL holder needs to respect his or her license so as to not lose their way of making a living. There's no excuse for this kind of abhorrent behavior behind the wheel when we are supposed to be professionals.

If your friend wants to spend $5000+ on a lawyer he might get it reduced to a lessor charge.
That would depend on his driving record for the last 5 years. The company he works for will
probably terminate him anyway. If he is an owner operator then it won't make any difference.
He will get his insurance canceled and that will mean he can't drive his truck again, anywhere.
I agree with Joe, anybody that is stupid enough to speed like that thru a construction zone
should not be driving a CMV. Sooner or later he will kill or cause serious harm to someone/

He has to get a lawyer, and I hope he gets it dropped.
AND it looks like it wasn't an active work zone,
Anyone that drove from Atlanta to Birmingham, after a while got fed up with that 55mph construction zone bull ####.

that's a good example! It's like coming from GA to AL and that silly 55 zone for no reason. There's no signs or cones or work being done just a speed zone for no reason.

Joseph, it's not like there was anybody around or work being done. No barricades or signage in any way to designate the construction zone existed. The area where work is being done is well marked so when you clear that area it looks like the zone is over. Like I said, I was only doing 45 because he had gotten a ticket or I would not have thought the zone was still in place.

So if there is nobody around it's ok to break the law? You think it's ok to go 73 in a 45 zone?
If he wasn't going so fast he probably would not have gotten a ticket. He's lucky he wasn't
arrested on the spot and his truck towed to the impound lot. So why where you going 45 mph
in that area and your friend was doing 73 mph? If it wasn't marked why where you going that
speed and he was driving at the faster speed?

I'll run 47 in the 45 on I 81 in Scranton, Wilkes Barr road construction area.
And I'll run the left lane most the time, I've never came up on slower traffic. I do it to be a dick.
At least the oil field driver has a boss that knows the area and hopefully understands the facts that the driver was nowhere near a construction zone.

haha I think you're getting a bit silly with this stance. You don't seem to understand that the zone was not marked. I was going 45 because he got a ticket and informed me of the zone. Otherwise I would not have even suspected it was a construction zone. The speed limit is 75 on this road so doing 73 in an area that is not properly marked is not as bad as you are making it out to be. You ask if it's ok to go 73 in a 45...well if the 45 is not marked and the regular speed limit is 75 then I can see how it would be an honest mistake. I mentioned there was nobody around meaning the construction workers were not in that area. You seem to think he's some sort of crazed maniac hell bent on the highway...haha If you can honestly tell me you have never sped at anytime ever then cast more stones at the glass house
