Sometimes (but not always) when I go to set my cruise, the dash says I must first push and release the brake pedal. Why is this required? Can find nothing in the operators manual that came with the truck.

It's because cruise control should not be used in trucks.....

If you have cruise control set and something goes wrong like blowing a steer tire. You'll be dead mighty quick...

What? So if it's so unsafe, why is it on pretty much every truck built?

Maybe it's a confirmation thing? Like doing a parked regen. I might be wrong.

There's an interlock between the cruise and the brake pedal.
It's a defect in every truck I've ever been in.
The brake pedal doesn't come up all the way, or for whatever reason it just doesn't open the contacts on the switch allowing the cruise to engage.
So you have to tap the pedal.

It's amazing they can't fix that, but have now gone through the trouble of having the truck tell you, you need to tap the pedal.

Ahh ok. Now that you say that, I remember having to reach down and pull up on the brake pedal on KWs. Then I would clean off the little piston on the bottom of the pedal, then spray some lube on it.

Are you driving a Freightliner? Those were the only truck I drove that you had to hit the brake before you could engage the cruise control.

I should have noticed it's the Kenworth forum. My apologies, I didn't mean to insult.

Because people are steering wheel attendants not drivers these days......

Most now expect trophy's for making from point A to point B.

It is so there is no chance the cruise control, if used to control engine RPM when stopped, is still engaged when you start driving.
