Do you Control and regulate your speed? No your cruise Control does. Hence the term steering wheel attendant.
A driver would know that something can go wrong in the blink of an eye. If your running along doing 65 mph on cruise control by the time your foot hits the break pedal you have already travelled further than you would have if you were able to lift off the throttle then apply brakes. When your travelling at 30-50 feet a second that can make a big difference to a good or bad day.
But by your reaction I'm figuring you have never experienced a steer tyre letting go...... -
