I will be one, possibly the first, person to give an outright honest opinion of CRST Van Expd.
I signed on with them as a contract student driver. They sent me to school in Dallas, TX and orientation in Oklahoma City, OK. Upon completion of orientation I was offered vouchers to stay in the hotel until my trainer arrived to pick me up. I turned the vouchers down since I live in OKC. My trainer arrived within 2-3 days and I started my 28 day training process. My trainer was down to earth and straightforward, no complaints. After my 28 days I met up with my co-driver, a guy I went to school and lived with, in OKC. We took our final road test and were assigned our truck and immediately under dispatch. We were out roughly 24 days before we took our home-time, during which he quit. My fleet manager allowed me to run solo until I found a co-driver. After a week and a half of running solo (approx. 4,500 miles) I found myself routed home to OKC. I was given the notice that I would be there until I found a co-driver. After 2 weeks of trying and failing to reach people I knew who worked for CRST I was in a situation where I had no money at all. At that point I walked away from the company.
CRST is NOT a bad company to work for. The company has its' ups and downs just like any other company out there. I would recommend that you make sure that the person you are going in with is at least in it for the 8 month requirement, otherwise you find yourself where I am. I have the option to go back to them and complete my contract or pay roughly $4200 in one lump sum or in monthly payments at 18% interest.
There it is, nothing derogatory at all.

I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale. 18% annual interest. Nothing derogatory, of course...............truckfam Thanks this. -
They will provide a list for you and help you find a co-driver, even so if you live that close to OKC just hanging at the terminal you will find students just completing their 28 days who need co-drivers or other drivers who are in the same boat as you. Really, it does sound like there is more to this story. Paying them $4200 because you couldn't find a co-driver makes no sense to me.
The Challenger and majortom Thank this. -
It was frustrating trying to find a co-driver sometimes. A lot of people don't bother to return your calls, etc.
It sounds like you were only looking for people you knew. Maybe I read that wrong. -
I've been wondering how all these CRST drivers wind up owing money. Now I know.
I never understood why y'all ever signed the contract. -
