Gulfmark is a well-established company that has been around for a long time, and I believe they're a first purchaser. I've never heard of the other company you mentioned.

First purchasers as in they own their own pipelines like Sunoco? Crude oil hauling seems to be picking up here in Oklahoma.

Gulfmark is a big operation along the coast in Texas 100 plus trucks just in South Texas. I heard the pay is great and yes they pickup their own crude. The down side is they are constantly firing & hiring people, this is 24/7 operation you don't have holidays or rainouts. The last person I talked too said at the time they were working 4 days on / 2 days off (Days & Nights). All of there trucks are Ryder equipment and usually parked at a Ryder Yard. Not a clue from a driver perspective but cvr is a legit company also. Gulfmark is also a legit company. Both are hauling for themselves I suspect. Cvr owns refineries as does gulfmark.

I don't know if they own pipelines or not. The first purchaser is the first company that buys the oil from the producer, and then sells it to another buyer (perhaps a refiner). In other words, they are buying the oil that they haul (you will see their name, lease number, and tank numbers stenciled on the tanks), not just hauling it for someone else. The fact that they are selling the oil that they buy gives them an additional revenue stream in addition to the transportation charges.

    Bingo. Right on the money.

Being a first purchaser doesn’t guarantee that you own pipeline but it tends to show deep pockets and experience in the oilfield.

A mistake made being a first purchaser can be a big one. I’ve heard of companies that got into being first purchasers, contracted to buy certain amounts of condensate (planning on blending it with their existing oil) who didn’t get their numbers right and went out of business.

If you’re dealing with a first purchaser who’s been around a while chances are you’re looking at good job stability.

    And 4 on / 2 off would be a dream. I’m working 6/2.
