I've hauled tall rolls of paper in vans... so tall they barely fit through the door. And I've hauled rolls on flatbed. I'd rather haul them shotgun on a flatbed than top heavy in a van any day.

    Bulldog has it right.

The government can bark and yap at the gaurdshack far away from the shipper or receiver. But has no authority in such a situation.

Ultimately it is you that will be responsible for cargo securement.

You guys who want more government involvement should also be the ones who never complain about elds or other things forced on all of us.

Well they have for years been able to fine shippers for over loading trucks, and at times these fines have been in the hundreds of thousands. It is the reason some places will not let you out the gate over gross, and others will not let you unload over gross either.

That isn't the FMCSA going after those shippers and receivers, it is the state/county/city who maintains the roads going in and saying "You are having trucks come and go overloaded and it's damaging our roads." The FMCSA has no jurisdiction to do it.

Local or state cop is not a federal official.

  9. all they're going to do is laugh it off and pay it be like yeah whatever..
just like detention the company offers a huge detention but if the company they're hauling for doesn't pay you don't get paid.

They must have been smacked down in court.

Shortly after the securement regs were in place; we had a loaded container stopped by a FMCSA roadside inspection team who cut the seal and determined the cargo was not properly braced [coils of steel] inside the container and the escorted the unit back to the shipper for additional bracing.

Carrier and driver were not fined and the inspection report mentioned an ongoing investigation against that shipper.
