I think anyone that stays in the OTR industry long enough has had or knows someone that has had reference problems from bad companies. In 9 1/2 years and several companies later with no bad references and a good safety record I had a bad reference from KLLM Jackson, MS this company has a history of abusing the DAC system in order to harass former drivers. Drivers that other than maybe telling them what they thought of them when they left, or in my case having to threaten to sue or go to Dept. of Labor (wage & hour) to get my truck deposit back, never had any safety and performace problems. They finally paid me claiming that paperwork was misplaced by dispatcher. I complained to head of payroll. I knew when she laughed at me when I said small claims court that they would do something bad to me.

KLLM stated that I quit with-out giving them a notice. Yes I did, but I was not on a dispatch, I was at home (hometime) and returned trk to co. terminal a hell of a lot cleaner than when issued to me and I sent satcom msg before I left home that morning to take trk/trl to terminal. I applied to 3 co's after that and all three offered me employment. They said they saw negative comments from old carrier but whatever it was would not keep me from working for them. One co. told me that they did not pay much attention to what a former co. said bad about drivers because they knew that a company that you left to work for someone else was'nt going to say how great you were, and that were more interested in how you would perform for them and not old company [thats how it should be]. Just goes to show you that even trucking co's know that DAC is being used as retaliation in some cases.

USIS/DAC's original purpose which was to weed out drivers with alcohol, drug, and safety (tickets & accidents) problems but is now being abused. It was not suppose to be what it has become today. Today it's more of a way for a company with ethical problems to blast a driver for even petty things and in some cases lie and fabricate stuff. THERES NO SHORTAGE OF DRIVERS JUST A SHORTAGE OF GOOD COMPANIES. Just some of my thoughts. Oh' and nothing hurts me more than to see drivers tearing other drivers down on these forums. We have a tough job as it is without going after one another. Leave the driver bashing to the carriers.
Now go "Ride Easy" and be safe.
