    Hey

My AC has seized, had to pop the belt off to get the motor to start, my shop is about 30mile away.

Any chance I can make it to the shop without the belt, its a dd15, so i think the bloody belt runs the water pump as well.

Not to worried about alternator, got plenty in the batteries and will run it during the day.

Any way of just putting a smaller belt on the water pump only, I know we used to do this with older engines, never had to do with a dd15.

    Thanks

If you are broke down on the shoulder. I would try to drive it to the shop.
If you are parked in a safe area, I would call someone (Autozone, Napa, Oreilly) to bring a belt to you. I do not know if you can run with water pump only. Maybe the computer would shut you down for no alternator.
I had my A/C lock up, broke belt. I drove about 30 miles with no belt to a shop. I drive a 2017 Cascadia with a DD15
Call a freightliner dealer and ask service.
    Good luck.

If the ac were froze. The old belt wouldn't be fine. It'd be broke.

A froze ac won't stop the motor from cranking.

Sounds like your batteries don't have as much juice as you think they do.

I'd be calling road service to get you started and on your way to a shop.

Changing a belt for no reason would be the least of my concern.

Nah its defenitally AC, it turns just enough.

I got to truck this morning and it wouldnt crank over, was very close, but not quiet enough, maybe I should have cranked it longer, but I was sure it wasnt going to go, all of the AC compressor is chewed up, clutch is ####ed, I removed the AC belt, and truck started fine.

I am confident in my diagnoses, whilst I agree with you that normally a seized AC will #### the belt, this one didnt, its turn just enough that when the motor would have been running last night it was turning around, but this morning its not free enough

Freightliner used to sell a short belt that just did engine pulley and water pump. If the water pump isn't hooked up. I wouldn't run unless I was bob tail.

If it runs and the AC clutch is broke. Drive it and let the belt burn up. I did that for around an hour until I got to a shop.

The water pump and proper fluid flow vs getting a new head.

I don’t think it would work. I think when you come over the top of the alternator it will hit the tensioner.

He said it wouldn't crank with the belt hooked up.

I don't see how a 500 amp starter pulling from 3 or 4000 amps of batteries would let a belt keep it from cranking but whatever.

Yeah, I just tried to loosen the tensioner a bit to have a bit of slack on the belt, AC is totally locked up now, belt was going around when I idled, but she just snapped then.

Might be a tow I think, I would think about using a smaller belt except the water pump belt is behind the other one, not sure if I can be bothered mucking around with it.

Mate, I tested 4 times, belt on 4 times no start, belt off 4 times start easy peasy.

When you take a bit of slack off the tensioner she fires straight up.

But yes, as soon as I started to drive the belt broke.
