Quick back story. This is a new to me Coronado (factory not glider) DD16 at 600hp.
I changed over from conventional oil to full synthetic. First change I only ran 10k miles as the transition change I'll call it. Used a OEM filter.
This change I went with the Baldwin filter that has multiple pleat separating bands. Not that I had any issue with the OE filter, but may as well try to improve when possible.
Usually I start the truck, make sure the pressures are coming up, then step out. I had not noticed any gauge surging before, but.....
So, only about 30F out, not cold, just cool. Running Delvac Extreme 15w40 full syn. For whatever reason, I noticed this surging a bit. It smooths out in about 30 to 40 seconds or so.
I'm wondering, do you think this is the filter bypass opening and closing?

Is it actually surging or just the gauge going wonky? Wonder if u can plug into a computer and monitor oil pressure when gauge is doing that and see if its just the gauge or not
Deezl Smoke and BoxCarKidd Thank this. -
Wonder if that is the voltage regular in your alternator hunting. My 2001 Dodge does that with the head lights in the winter time when it is dark and driven in the morning. Starts and lasts about 30 seconds after I leave the driveway. Always has and is on the third alternator.
D.Tibbitt and Deezl Smoke Thank this. -
Once warm, starting up the gauge does not hunt. This only happens first start of the day. After that, any re-starts are fine, and driving, the gauge acts perfect. I should see what the micron size is on OE filters vs. the Baldwin.

And glow plug relays.
