Say you have to deadhead to pick up a load somewhere, are you still getting paid for that run?

Newbie question, go easy on me!

Depends on whether you get paid by the hour or by the mile...

In my opinion, you should in both cases... you are still driving...

with our company we dont get paid for deadhead miles so we try to book our loads as close as possible, sometimes we get in a area that we dont have a choice but to travel deadhead miles and that sucks.Lerado Texas is one of the places i find to avoid,do you get to book your own loads or are they dispatched to you?

Company drivers get paid for all miles driven, loaded and empty. O/O's do not. L/P possibly, depends on the company. Might be at a reduced rate. ALL trucking companies short you on mileage pay, 5-7% usually. You run a 1500 actual miles load, you'll get paid for maybe 1440 miles. (it's the computer they say):biggrin_25510:

depends, since I get paid hourly/percentage, hourly it doesn't matter, but if I go out of town and drop a trailer and have to bobtail back to Denver, they build into the price the fact that we have to make two trips.

Just my opinion, (and we all know what thats worth) If you run it, get paid for it. If a company doesn't want to pay you for the work you do then they shouldn't expect you to do it!!! They don't work for free and neither should we!!!!!

Depends on the company I guess. I get paid extra for deadhead when you factor in the effect it has on fuel mileage bonus. :)
