You are right just a guess. At this point the OP doesn't really have many options left.
    Let's see:
    1. Contact a lawyer and see if he has a case. I assume that the OP does not have the money to pay a lawyer, so the lawyer have to take the case on contingency. I absolutely encourage him to do that.
    2. Keep poring money in the truck and pay himself to have it fixed right.
    3. Let the financing company have it and if they sue him for the balance (most likely they will) file for bankruptcy or move to a debtor friendly state like Florida, N. Carolina or Texas (mot a good option).
Can't really think of any other options.

As I stated in my post I went through 5 attorneys before I found one willing to fight a major top-tier legal firm that handled the bank's legal matters. I also said you have to weed through some tools as well. I admit I had to write a check for almost 4 thousand to hire a forensic accountant once we got discovery. However, that last attorney asked me how I liked my coffee and both of us walked back into a large conference room and we spoke for close to an hour. I won't lie, that attorney actually depressed me because he spent 30 minutes telling me how this case could go sideways. However once that Forensic Accountant made their report the bank was after settling with me. The only reason we went to trial was they were trying to bluff me into accepting an offer far lower than my actual damages were. We stuck to our guns and won. Then we settled to stop the appeal process. I still got my money back, the attorney got paid and we got word later the guy at the bank was no longer going to be a broker.

Attorneys don't like to take cases much where they have to actually go to court. Like I said it took me 5 tries. No absolutes in these situations. However, I do agree with your initial point. In the long run, it may be better just to file bankruptcy.
