They (Peterbilt and Cummins) claim they can't change it due to the EPA "lock". I don't see how raising the RPM has to do with the EPA unless they claim it will hurt the MPG. The issue I have is that the amount of time the engine would spend above 1700 is almost nonexistent unless I'm climbing a steep hill or simply accelerating from a stop. Cruise RPM is around 1500 @ 65 mph.

I ran around up to 140,000 and NEVER needed to go over 1700 to get the job done. Anything built with an ecm on it doesn’t need to go that high.
haycarter and Trucking in Tennessee Thank this. -

if Balanced your truck peak HP will HIT till 1550RPM if your RPM go higher then that your truck will start losing torque and hp too
if EFFICIECY your engine will set up for max HP till 1350 RPM after that RPM you need to set up engine for Balanced oneDave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
I could never do that.
driving from GA to MS is just a few hours.m
I felt really nervous paying $1,500 for an old pickup without seeing it in person and driving it.Last edited: Jun 7, 2021
