Decisions , Stay here or go over the road.

After 9 years of OTR I took a local position two years ago. I really enjoy my job and the freedom of only working 3 to 4 days a week. I make decent money at around 60k per year. Where I live there are very few local positions and the pay is comparable to what I make. So here is the dilemma I have facing me. I am basically in a dead end job. I have no opportunity for growth in the company unless I want to relocate and they don't give annual wage increases without you fighting for them. We don't get any extra pay for staying with the company nor do we get more vacation time the longer we stay. So really there is no incentive to stay other then the freedom I have and the existing benefits I have. I am 49 so I am at a point in my life where I have more years behind me and less in front of me. Realistically I only have 10 to 15 years left in my career. So now I have a decision to make. Do I stay here and just work a dead end but decent job or do I move on back to OTR. I do have two companies in my area that would be a good fit and I can grow with the company, but I don't know if I want to give up my freedom to go back OTR. Any incite from my fellow old timers.

 

All very true and are the main reasons I have been having a hard time making the decision. I always come back to the old saying "the grass isn't always greener on the other side." Most likely will stay where I am but the temptation of making better money and going O/O again is always there lol.

 

Probably regret leaving the easy job to lol. My freedom is a very big reason to stay and will probably be the main reason I do. I have my old pre-trucking life back and am making way better money now then I ever did before getting behind the wheel.

 

That is very true. I have gained 60 lbs in the last 10 years of driving.
