Dedicated can be great or horrible depending on the customer, the type of freight you haul, location/region you deliver to, etc. You could run on a dedicated fleet and be out for two or more weeks or you could be home every day. It can be drop and hook, live unload, or like the dollar stores, driver unload. You could get 800 miles per week or 3,000 miles per week. All of this depends on the companies you drive for, are dedicated to, and deliver to.

There is no one size fits all when it comes to dedicated.

I've always preferred dedicated. You run a lot harder than what you do on regional or OTR.

    Running Hard=$$$

dedicated can be a "pain in the arse"............for one, a dedicated run is driven by the customer. if the customer see's no real benefit of having such runs, the customer can and WILL break the dedicated run account, and the trucking company cannot fight it. i know THIS first hand by being on dedicated runs myself. you WILL get a steady salary so at least you know your weekly take home. miles you get depends on the account, so do not believe what other guys tell you they get, and think that you will get it as well. also, in "some instances" dedicated runs go to senior drivers, not usually "new hires".............

as far as "running harder" on a dedicated run, again, it goes to the customer and the account. i was always lucky that my dedicated runs were making me come home daily. OTR "affords" one to get more miles per week (in some situations) equaling more $$$$ that's for sure, but then too, many times OTR drivers are sitting for long periods of time waiting on loads. then the OTR driver seems to push harder to get it done, so he/she can get another load.

that's probably the over all benefit of dedicated runs...........not too much waiting time involved.

Thats what I am saying. I have done the OTR/regional thing and I will say, for atleast the OTR, they give you TOO much time....or at least they always do for me.

I'm the type that likes to pick up a load and have a short time to deliver it, and repeat the process over and over again. Come weekend time, I am nice and pooped but I have my legs propped up in the EZ chair....
