I have had 2 trucks in the past couple weeks with Bad DEF concentration levels. Both suspects have passed oil litmus paper test ruling out contamination. Both bad batches were tested with 2 different cummins refractometers to ensure accuracy.
One was very low concentration at 8%.......So severely diluted. The other was complete opposite at 40+% and at the top of the scale for the meter. This was a first for me, never seen over-concentration.
Anyone else seeing this and if so how often and what areas? Tis a shame that we charge customers for this, as clearly the mix is off. Whomever mixed the potion should be footing the bill.
DEF concentration levels off, extremes both directions. Any one else see this?

Seen it a couple times but never from the pump, always a customer owned tote/ supply.
One was a whole fleet that was using the same tote sitting outside in the sun. The other was a customer that purchased a tote that was quite old. I believe this customer got reimbursed by the seller. He now carries a tester for new totes.
Had a decent amount of contaminated def with dirt, diesel fuel, and windshield washer fluid. All driver issues though.daf105paccar, AModelCat, singlescrewshaker and 2 others Thank this. -
See it once in a while. Usually old stock. Was told its best to store DEF as cold as possible to prevent water from evaporating.
daf105paccar and Goodysnap Thank this. -
