My CO truck, a 2021 p b. 579, suddenly started having trouble going uphill loaded. I have a cel and am told it's " turbo regulator" which was replaced 4 month ago. And an egr issue. I know that one problem will trigger another. But just B4 this started, I filled the truck with diesel and def. I noticed the def cap was under vacuum. When you pull it off ,there's the sound of air rushing in. I've never seen that B4. Everytime I stop I pull the cap and it's under vacuum I wonder if that's a symptom of one of those cel issues or a def tank not venting is causing the codes. I'll take it to a rush or Peterbilt shop but I'm in California getting a load to Utah and need to get over the Sierra's. I'd like to finish the trip. Thinking about running the cap loose.

21 and newer tanks have a much smaller vent hose on the tank vents. Like 1/4” vs 3/8 hose size on older models than 20’. Inspect the hose around the back of the tank for pinched zip ties on the hose. Also I have found some assembly paste from the factory clogging the hose on the inside.

Don’t take it to Rush..why waste your money.
My “Pride In Crap” Peterbilt 2021 & 2023
Clog up the vent tube constantly. Just pop the rubber boot off the top of the tank and clear the vent. Pull the tube out carefully because there’s a cheap crap plastic 90 degree connected to the tube. The tube and 90 are one piece (90 is glued to the tube I believe) and that’s how you order a replacement if the 90 breaks.

I’ve learned to just keep the tube removed and keep my DEF tank around 3/4..mine is 30 gallons so it’s not a big deal for me. If you keep it full it’ll just slosh around and clog the whole within a week or so.

Once you remove the tube find something small (I use a small Phillips screwdriver) and push it down the hole to clear it.

That’s it, welcome to Paccar life :)

Don’t run the cap lose it fall off and if you don’t have the rubber leash anymore you’ll be buying another cap…They aren’t cheap I learned that lesson already:)

Thanks for all that. I don't own it , thankfully. I'll check the tube.
