Posted this on the r/truckers reddit but also wanted to gather some opinions here:
Looking to get in to OTR Trucking while working towards a Logistics and Fleet Management Degree online. Wanted to know if anyone had any experience in transitioning into a management position from trucking.
How useful would a degree in fleet management be or is it a waste of time and I should just focus on getting OTR experience; applying for jobs after a few years?
Any input would be appreciated.

I transitioned out of management and into trucking … a lot less stressful and a heck of lot less BS ...

The hot degree right now is supply chain management. There's almost bidding wars for those guys, and they start in the high 60's to 80's right out of college.
I would think of it less as a transition from trucking after you get the degree as some useful experience as you start a second career.vroomvroom and Spazzer Thank this. -

Ah okay that's a good view on it, thanks for your insight!

I have known lots of drivers that had degrees, and chose trucking over the original career they worked. sometimes it is because of a feeling of freedom and or much less stress, sometimes it is because they make more money, than what they are paying student loans off for.
Opendeckin, FlaSwampRat, FerrissWheel and 2 others Thank this. -

I have a degree. I’ve been in executive management for a couple decades. I’m moving into trucking.
