Hello everyone, new to the forum.
I recently applied for Maverick's CDL training program and ended up in a foot-in-mouth situation. While speaking to the recruiter, I said "no" when asked about past marijuana/drug use. I recently quit THC in August and am never going back in my effort to jump-start a new life for myself. I felt bad about lying and emailed the recruiter to admit that I had quit fairly recently and apologized for being dishonest, and instantly had my application denied. I'm sort of regretting coming clean with him, because I probably would have been ok to pass a hair follicle test if it was administered in mid-November or later. I told him up front that I wasn't planning on starting training until January. At the same time, I don't feel great about lying so I've just accepted that it is what it is.
Anyway, I'm going to wait another month or two before even applying to another CDL training program so I can be absolutely sure I will pass a hair follicle test. What I'm worried about is if trucking companies report on applicants to each other, and I'm hoping someone here can put my mind at ease. I used to work in the mining industry, and if one company blacklisted someone, they'd put the word out to others in the region to do the same, so I'm a little worried that other trucking companies might find out about the reason I was denied by Maverick. I'm probably just being a bit paranoid though.
With all that out of the way, what are some good alternatives to Maverick? I'm really wanting to find a company that trains for flatbed securement in addition to a CDL, and so far TMC seems like a good option. But I'd like to know what others think and I'd appreciate some recommendations/advice. I plan on doing research over the next month or two while I wait to be clear on a hair test, and I figured this forum is a good place to start.
Thanks in advance!

While I am not sure it would be reported to hireright or driver iq, if it could be reported without issue for Maverick, they may have reported it. Again, I do not know they can or would but if they can or will, then you are probably burned with most of the companies that check either of those two reports provided by the respective agency. I wouldn't have "come clean" as to admitting something that they wouldn't be able to prove short of a hair follicle test. I mean, if they won't know, then they won't know, right?
Edit to add, if your past employers that have to be verified include any industry you may have been "blacklisted" in, when that employer is contacted if they divulge whatever got you blacklisted, it could result in the trucking company you apply with turning down your application as well.bl00zy Thanks this. -
Maybe Melton?
@ChinatownWalk Among Us, Chinatown and bl00zy Thank this. -
I was never personally blacklisted in the mining industry, I just knew of people who were. Typically it was for pretty severe violations like using amphetamines at work or getting caught smoking a cigarette underground (BAD idea in a coal mine). I've been out of that industry for several years anyway. And yeah, in the future I'm just going to deny having used in the past since I'll definitely be able to pass a follicle test by the time I start applying again. I'm hoping that since I didn't actually fail any tests and had only just started the application process they won't report me for it. If all else fails, I can probably train with Amazon since I've been working for them in warehouses for a couple years, but they're kind of my last choice.

Can't report anything. You didn't test. Forget Melton then and move on. Usually takes up to 90 days past stopping to pee clean. Get some good home test kits and wait until you have at least 3 of those negative..bl00zy Thanks this.

Phew! Hope you're right about that. I'm not worried at all about a urine test, just a hair test which, from doing some research, is about 90 days for a positive result. Since I stopped in August I'm going to wait until at least December to apply anywhere else just to be safe. I believe they have hair follicle home test kits, but they're more expensive and have to be sent to a lab. Will probably be worth it for the peace of mind though, so I may go ahead and do that when the time comes. Thanks for the advice.
Thanks, I'll add those to my list. -
Fyi...unless you were smoking like a freight train, THC usually does not bind with hair cells. Hard drugs do though.

Before I quit I didn't smoke as much as I used to, just those Delta 8/Delta 10 vapes that are legal in my state. From the research I've done it's not the THC itself but THC metabolites that end up in hair and that's what they test for. Either way I'm going to give it some time for my own peace of mind and so I won't be taking any chances. I look at it as an opportunity to do a lot of research into several companies so I can find one I'll really be happy with.

A woman on here, a couple years ago, did the same. She was hired and actually in orientation when she ratted on herself that she smoked weed in high school.
She said she just can't sleep at night after lying that she never used weed.
The company she was in orientation with promptly fired her and a few months later she still was unemployed. No trucking company would hire her.James j, BrothaTrucka513, bryan21384 and 1 other person Thank this.
